What are the signs of autism in adults?Common signs in adults include persistent difficulties with social communication and interaction, highly focused and intense interests, sensory sensitivities (to light, sound, or touch), and a strong need for routine. Your Sachs Center psychologist can evaluate you for Autism.
What’s the difference between autism and social anxiety or ADHD?Autism involves core challenges in social intuition and sensory processing. Social anxiety is a fear of being judged in social situations, even if the social skills are there. ADHD primarily involves issues with attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. They can also co-occur.
What is involved in Sachs Center diagnostic testing? Our Autism & ADHD testing helps determine if you, or a loved one, has ADHD, Autism or AuDHD (both). The assessment is conducted virtually via Zoom or Google Meet and typically takes between 2 and 2.5 hours. We utilize current, validated self-report measures and assessments. At the conclusion of the evaluation, if applicable, you will receive a letter indicating your diagnosis, a diagnostic 4-page report or both, depending on which evaluation type you choose on the booking page. What is the Sachs Center diagnostic testing process?The two-hour diagnostic evaluation for Autism, ADD, and ADHD goes beyond a simple checklist. We use the latest diagnostic tools to accurately test for ADHD and Autism (ASD). This ADHD & Autism (ASD) testing process begins with a clinical interview, where we learn about early childhood symptoms and the current challenges that are negatively impacting your life. After the initial clinical interview, you will be given computer-based assessments to further fine-tune our diagnostic impression. We are specialists in Autism and ADHD and have a wealth of experience in ASD and ADHD.
Do I need neuropsychological testing?Neuropsychological or psychoeducational testing is not needed for a simple diagnosis of ASD or ADHD. It is necessary, however, to receive accommodations in school or extra time on a standardized test. We have been successful in getting extra time accommodations for our clients on the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT, etc. Neuropsychological testing can also be helpful in determining if your child has a learning disorder. We offer weekend hours for busy students and their families.
How do signs of autism differ in women/adults?Autism in women and adults can be less obvious due to “masking,” which is consciously learning and mimicking social behaviors. It may present as social exhaustion, intense but more socially acceptable interests, and strong sensory sensitivities that have been hidden.
How do I get tested for autism as an adult?The Sachs Center specializes in the testing and evaluation of adults for Autism and ADHD. We offer telehealth evaluations that allows you to meet with a psychologist from the comfort of your own home.
