October Is ADHD Awareness Month

There are a lot of misconceptions regarding ADHD floating around out there. For example, if your child has ADHD it doesn’t mean that you’re a bad parent. ADHD testing and treatment is offered for adults as well as children.  And, despite what you may have heard, prescription medication isn’t the only ADHD treatment available in NYC.

ADHD Awareness Month was created as a way to set the record straight about these and other issues by disseminating reliable information based on the evidence of science and peer-reviewed research. An international coalition of organizations, including Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) and the Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA), is behind the effort.

October Is ADHD Awareness Month

The hope is that, once people are armed with reliable information about ADHD, they will be empowered to seek help. In particular, the organizers behind ADHD Awareness Month want to encourage people affected by ADHD to:

1 – Seek professional assessment, such as the ADHD testing for adults and children available at the Sachs Center

2 – Get appropriate ADHD treatment – in NYC, the Sachs Center can help with a range of options.
  • Treatment options for adults with ADHD includes psychoeducation, individual therapy and medication if warranted. For those individuals that do not want to take medication, neurofeedback can be explored.
  • For children who have tested positive for ADHD, we offer therapy, ADD Coaching, social skill groups, neurofeedback, nutritional counseling, organizational coaching and medication to improve the overall functioning of our pediatric clients.
3 – Share resources!

The Truth About ADHD

The Sachs Center, which is a full-service boutique practice focused on the testing and treatment of ADD/ADHD and Aspergers in children, teens and adults, is proud to join the effort to dispel some of the myths surrounding ADHD during ADHD Awareness Month.

At ADHD Awareness Month.org, you can find a variety of resources, including the handout “7 Facts You Need to Know About ADHD.”
