ADHD Awareness Month

February 6, 2014 by George Sachs PsyD

October marks the national Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Awareness Month: a month dedicated to educating the public about the truth about ADHD, and providing the public with scientifically-backed information and studies.

Although as a nation we have come a long way in terms of changing our attitude towards ADHD diagnosis, there are still thousands of individuals who are misinformed or unaware about the realities of living with ADHD. For the coming month we encourage families who are involved with ADHD to reaffirm their knowledge of the disorder, and to maintain confidence in their stance about ADHD.

The Sachs Center has opened a new location in Brooklyn and Union Square to better support our clients. All of our locations are happy to answer any questions you may have about ADHD and ADHD Awareness Month, and we encourage you to speak with our psychologists. New York City residents can contact us at (855) 718-5993.

My 13 year old was diagnosed here with ADHD and we decided to enter him into the Dragon Masters Social Skills Group. It was a little rough on him at first but after the first week’s set of meetings he was ready to earn his next dragon shirt. All the while we noticed small changes in him at home. He was more calm during dinner and didn’t get as distracted while doing his school work. He even became more responsible and started doing chores before playing which was not like his previous behavior at all. Seeing him learn to handle his issues and make it all the way to wizard was so amazing to watch. They didn’t fill him with prescriptions and call it a day like most doctors would have. Dr. Sachs made sure the root problem was addressed and that my son learned coping skills that will last him a lifetime and don’t ever need a refill. The cost was well worth it when you consider that in my opinion. read less - 8/27/2018

I’m so glad we took Jesse to the Sachs Center before a regular physician because they take a non-pharmacological approach. Dr. Sachs recommended we try EEG therapy in Jesse’s case. It took about 40 sessions of twice weekly meetings but he was able to completely change his standard of living. Everything from focusing to sleeping has become easier for him since going through these sessions. It’s so nice to know he doesn’t have to take a pill to be this way either. read less - 8/13/2018

I brought her to the Sachs Center where they gave her a comprehensive test and indeed diagnosed her with ADHD. They presented many different options for her treatment and were so caring throughout. With a combination of therapy and social skills groups she seems to be doing very well with school now and has made more friends. We’re so happy that she’s happier and doing better and highly recommend the Sachs Center. read less - 8/20/2018
