The AIS is a 12-item research questionnaire about sexual-attraction experiences. Asexuality is a sexual orientation, not a disorder. A questionnaire cannot determine your identity, and your own understanding of your experience matters more than a score.
The source scale asks about lifetime experience. Eleven items use agreement choices and one uses a frequency response; follow the wording and choices for each item. Complete all twelve to see a concise score and short explanation without providing an email.
Responses, including the reverse-keyed items, produce a 12–60 total. The original study proposed a research cutoff of 40, but it is not a rule for deciding an individual's orientation. Site-created bands are not separate validated identity or severity categories. Sexual attraction, sexual behavior, libido, romantic attraction, and identity are related but not interchangeable.
