ADHD & AUTISM EVALUATIONS

You don’t need to spend $5,000 or wait forever for an ADHD or autism diagnosis.

A focused clinical evaluation may be the right starting point. Broader testing can be appropriate for complex questions or specific documentation requirements.

Evaluation scope

You don’t always need a $5,000 evaluation for an autism or ADHD diagnosis.

If your main question is “Do I have ADHD or autism?”, a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation can often answer it without a full neuropsychological test battery.

Diagnosis draws on your developmental history, current symptoms, their impact on daily life, clinical assessment, and consideration of other explanations. A full battery of cognitive, memory, and academic tests is not automatically necessary to answer that diagnostic question.

Broader neuropsychological or psychoeducational testing may help when you need a detailed picture of learning or cognitive abilities, or additional evidence for accommodations such as extra time on the GRE, SAT, or LSAT. Requirements vary by testing agency; check what documentation you need before booking.

Explore neuropsychological testing ↗

Diagnosis starts with clinical evidence—not automatically a full test battery.

  • Autism

The CDC explains that diagnosis in children usually draws on developmental history and a professional’s observation of behavior, assessed against diagnostic criteria. No single tool should determine the diagnosis.

  • ADHD

NIMH describes clinical interviews, symptom measures, history, and consideration of other explanations. Cognitive testing may also help identify learning difficulties and other needs.

A comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and a full neuropsychological battery are different services. Your clinician should recommend the scope that answers your clinical questions.

Exam-accommodation documentation: ETS notes neuropsychological or psychoeducational testing may help document functional limitations; LSAC states required documentation varies. These sources offer general information, not an endorsement of Sachs Center.

Two different scopes

Focused evaluation or broader neuropsychological testing?

Focused diagnosis and broader testing serve different needs.

Focused ADHD & autism evaluation

Answers the diagnostic question—ADHD, autism, or both—through clinical interviews, developmental history, and symptom measures. A letter if diagnosed and an optional report may meet some documentation needs.

Broader neuropsychological assessment

Evaluates learning, cognition, and memory in detail, and can provide documentation for specific requirements—such as evidence some testing agencies consider for exam accommodations. A broader test battery and report are tailored to the referral question.

Before booking, ask the receiving organization what documentation and testing it requires. Accommodation decisions are made by that organization.

In a client’s words

“The detailed report was very neuro affirming and thorough, it never implied that my brain differences were somehow a defect or something that needed to be fixed. I really appreciated the neuro affirming and respectful language.”

Common questions

ADHD and autism evaluation FAQs.

Do I need a full neuropsychological assessment?

Not necessarily. The appropriate assessment depends on your clinical question, history, and documentation needs. A focused ADHD or autism evaluation may be appropriate for diagnostic clarification, while broader neuropsychological testing can be useful for questions about learning, memory, cognition, or specific accommodation requirements.

Is telehealth available where I live?

Telehealth eligibility depends on your location, the clinician’s licensure, and whether remote evaluation is appropriate for your needs. Confirm availability for your location when booking.

What documentation will I receive?

A diagnostic letter is included if a diagnosis is given. You can choose an optional six-page report for an additional $400. Discuss what you need with your clinician and check any outside organization’s documentation requirements in advance.

Will this evaluation qualify me for accommodations?

An evaluation does not guarantee accommodations. The school, employer, testing body, or other receiving organization makes that decision and determines what documentation or additional testing is required. Contact them before booking.

Can ADHD and autism be evaluated together?

Yes. Sachs Center offers a combined ADHD and autism evaluation, starting at $890. A single ADHD or autism evaluation starts at $790. Clinician-specific prices vary; confirm the appointment type and price when booking.

Do you accept insurance?

Sachs Center is out of network. Coverage and reimbursement depend on your plan, provider, and service. Ask your insurer about eligibility and documentation before booking, including any Medicare or TRICARE restrictions. A receipt or other documentation does not guarantee reimbursement.

What support is available afterward?

Discuss findings and next steps with your clinician. Therapy and coaching are separate services and are subject to availability; they are not included in the evaluation fee.
